Amotekun, the operational name for the Ondo State Security Network Agency, proudly announced its success in thwarting attempted robberies on three commercial banks in Irele local government area of the state.
Commander Adetunji Adeleye revealed this accomplishment while addressing the media at the corps headquarters in Akure, where 36 suspects were paraded for their alleged involvement in various offenses. Among those arrested was the ringleader of an attempted bank robbery, along with other accomplices planning to kidnap a businessman in Irele local government area.
Adeleye credited the corps’ diligent intelligence gathering for the arrest of the mastermind, while acknowledging that six other gang members are still at large. He elaborated on the gang’s origins from Sapele, Delta State, highlighting their dual plan to both rob a bank and execute a kidnapping scheme in Irele LGA.

Efforts to capture the escaped gang leader, who fled to Delta State, are ongoing, with the cooperation of relevant government and security authorities. The intelligence gathered revealed their intention to target three banks and abduct the managing director of a supermarket. Investigations also uncovered their involvement in the vandalism of critical government assets, including the theft of pipes intended for a World Bank-financed water project.
Adeleye emphasized the corps’ commitment to ensuring peace and security in Ondo State, urging the public to continue providing timely and actionable information. He reassured citizens of their dedication to safeguarding lives and property, in collaboration with other security agencies in the state.”
