The Anambra State Government has started a campaign to end the notorious sit-at-home order which has impaired business activities in the state every Monday for the past few years.
Government officials under the Governor Chukwuma Soludo administration, in their latest move, had been deployed to different markets to spur the confidence of traders and to encourage them to open their shops.
Mr Ernest Ezeajughi, the Chief of Staff to the Governor; Chief Evarist Uba, the Special Adviser on Trade and Markets; and AVM Ben Chiobi Rtd., his Security counterpart had on Monday, moved around the major markets in the state with that mission in mind.
While addressing market leaders in Awka, Ezeajughi, who led the team, had informed traders who opened their shops to advise others to do same.
They had said:
“[The State] Government has decided to supply maximum security across markets and has finished arrangements with financial institutions across the state to open for business as well.
“The Government will do everything possible to guarantee the full return of business on Mondays.
“We therefore, warn any market leadership to desist from sabotaging the government’s present efforts towards achieving a boosted economic growth and stability to take caution because they will be heavily sanctioned.”
Alreadt, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, Anambra State Command, has formerly stated that operatives have been stationed to banks to protect them.
