Nollywood actress Angela Okorie has been remanded at the Suleja Correctional Centre following allegations of defamation involving fellow actress Mercy Johnson.
Okorie was reportedly ordered into custody by an Abuja court on Wednesday after she was arrested.
Federal Character reports that the actress was picked up in Lagos late Tuesday night and flown to Abuja early Wednesday morning for further proceedings.
Nollywood filmmaker Stanley Ontop confirmed the development on social media, expressing outrage over what he described as the misuse of the judicial process.

He accused Mercy Johnson of intimidation and insisted that defamation cases should be handled as civil matters, not criminal ones.
In a strongly worded Instagram post, Stanley wrote, “Free @realangelaokorie now, irrespective of who is involved. If you feel they defamed your person, kindly approach a competent court and sue the person involved. Omo, when Nigeria police will even learn to do their work well?”
He further questioned the speed of the judicial process in the matter and expressed emotional support for the detained actress. “So the judiciary can work this fast? Tell me how you will sleep this night knowing fully well that ur colleague is in prison!!! Angela I will never forsake you,” he added.
The case has since sparked conversations online, with many Nigerians debating the criminalisation of defamation and the broader role of law enforcement in civil disputes.
