Antoine Griezmann became the foreign player with the most appearances in LaLiga after playing his 521st match, in Atletico Madrid’s 1-1 draw with Espanyol.
Messi previously claimed the record, with 520 games for Barcelona, topping Donato’s 466 appearances in 2020. The Argentine’s last LaLiga game came in 2021 prior to his switch to Paris Saint-Germain.
Griezmann started his LaLiga journey with Real Sociedad in 2010 and has had a stellar career in the country. After starring at La Real, he moved to Atletico Madrid for €30 million in 2014 and became one of the club’s greats. He won the Europa League in his first, while a return in 2021 cemented his status.
The 34-year-old remains a force under Diego Simeone, now the all-time top scorer at Atleti. He stands two goals away from 200 scored in LaLiga, something only accomplished in the 21st century by Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Karim Benzema.
There are no signs of Griezmann slowing down, though, and with LaLiga in the grips of another title race, he will again prove a huge asset for Atletico in the 2024-25 season.
