Politics in Nigeria never fails to entertain with its twists and turns! So, here’s the latest drama: former President Goodluck Jonathan stirred the pot, and the All Progressives Congress (APC) didn’t hold back in their response. They practically dragged him like a generator!
It all started when Jonathan hinted that if the APC had won the recent governorship polls in Bayelsa State, he’d have relocated his mom to Abuja to dodge potential security chaos. He dropped this bombshell during a visit to the newly victorious Governor Douye Diri from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
But wait, the APC elders weren’t having it! They slammed Jonathan in a signed statement, calling him out for what they termed as “political midlife crises.” They were ready to give him a verbal lashing!
These elders wondered aloud how far Jonathan would go just to please his supposed bosses, who, technically, should be answering to him. According to them, Jonathan conveniently forgot the tough times Bayelsans faced under the PDP’s watch—economic struggles, physical violence, you name it.
They straight-up challenged Jonathan’s take on peace in Bayelsa, citing documented incidents of violence during APC campaigns and even pointing out specific clashes in various parts of the state. The elders fired shots about incidents like Jonathan’s uncle’s kidnapping and attacks on his properties, asking if APC was in power during those chaotic times.
And it didn’t stop there! The elders accused Jonathan of playing a confusing political game, shifting alliances between parties faster than a quick-change artist. They called out his apparent support for the PDP in broad daylight while cozying up to the APC behind the scenes, like a political chameleon.
In a final blow, they reminded everyone of Jonathan’s lofty past as Nigeria’s President, urging him to act the part rather than getting tangled up in what they described as puppetry for a state governor.
“Jonathan cannot keep aiding and abetting violence and incompetence just to forward his confusing political ambitions. The only part of his politics that is clear is his personal hatred for the APC, a rookie party that upstaged him in 2015 as President.
“He should stop going around with the tag of a statesman, he is clearly neck-deep in politics. We have not forgotten that he supported Peter Obi over President Tinubu of the APC in the last presidential elections and just days to the Bayelsa State gubernatorial elections, he was hurriedly packaged to openly endorse Governor Diri and the PDP,”.
“Everyone is aware of his PDP by day, and APC by night politics to the extent he almost nominated the Minister from Bayelsa State, a move which failed at the final moments. If you remember our group did a press statement to that effect.
“Jonathan should respect the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the most exalted office in our country which he has held. Some of his desperate political moves and alignments are below expectations, especially being used as a puppet by a state governor.”
Phew, Nigerian politics is a rollercoaster ride! It’s a no-smile zone where the saying goes, “Do anyhow, and you see anyhow.” There’s never a dull moment in this arena! ?
