The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has elected Chief Tony Okocha as its new chairman. Okocha, who had previously served as the Caretaker Committee Chairman, was elected unopposed during the state delegate congress held in Port Harcourt on Saturday.

The election, conducted through a voice vote, was overseen by Dr. Adoye Omalez, representing the APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje. Other executive positions were also filled during the congress.

In his inaugural speech, Okocha declared the APC’s goal to take control of the Rivers State government by 2027. He dismissed claims that the APC lacked unity, emphasizing that the peaceful election process demonstrated the party’s strength.
He also praised President Bola Tinubu for his leadership, particularly the reopening of the Port Harcourt Refinery, and assured members that the APC would win future elections in the state.

Okocha outlined a clear vision for the APC’s future, stating that the party would aim to win in all levels of government, including the state assembly, local government areas, National Assembly, and governorship elections. He also reiterated the importance of supporting President Tinubu’s administration for national progress.

The congress also resulted in the election of several other key APC officials, including the Deputy Chairman, State Secretary, Publicity Secretary, State Auditor, Women Leader, Youth Leader, Legal Advisor, and Zonal Leaders from the three senatorial districts.
