Tonye Cole, the All-Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for governor in Rivers State, has come out to reject the results of the just-concluded election, calling for the electoral body, Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to cancel the election because it had not reflected the choices and will of people of the state.
This was broadcast to a joint press conference on Monday, March 20, by Sobomabo Jackrich of the National Rescue Movement, NRM, Tonye Ibraye from the African Democratic Congress, ADC, and Cole.
Before this, INEC had declared the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Siminalayi Fubara, as the winner of last Saturday’s governorship election as he had polled 302,614 votes to defeat Tonye Cole who got 95,274 votes.
But Cole had called on INEC to revoke the election, following reports of widespread violence and irregularities.
He had however advised his supporters to keep calm as he takes steps to reclaim their mandate.
