Let’s start by giving a well-deserved round of applause to the cast and crew of the series All of Us. Like many, I was initially skeptical, especially given the flood of uninspired high school dramas on YouTube. . But this series was different. The casting alone was a breath of fresh air, and I have to say, All of Us is a beautiful series that truly deserves all the applause.
The Storyline That Keeps You Hooked
Over the weekend, All of Us, a high school drama, premiered in a stunning event attended by the cast and special guests. The series dives into the lives of ten high school students whose worlds are turned upside down by a single lie.
Directed by Orire Nwani and Oluchi Nsofor, and produced by Eni Adeoluwa and Gbolahan Gaffa, the show is written by Mannie Oiseoma and boasts a star-studded cast. The main cast includes Eni Adeoluwa, Jemima Osunde, Tobe Ugeh, John Merry, Eronini Osinachim, Nimiee Ogunjebgbe, Jerry Chuks, Tomi Ojo, Priscilla Ojo, and Angel Unigwe—truly a lineup of Gen-Z talent. In addition, the series features seasoned actors like Kate Henshaw, Uzee Usman, Maryam Booth, Yemi Solade, Adunni Ade, Deyemi Okanlawon, Rahama Sadau, Iyabo Ojo, Chioma Akpota, Lilian Esoro, Femi Durojaye, Saga Deolu, Ray Adeka, and Chy Nwakanma.
A High School Drama with a Twist
The plot centers around the students of City View College who attend a party hosted by their friend Ahmad (played by Tobe Ugeh). However, the night takes a dark turn when they discover the dead body of one of their teachers, Mr. Marcus (played by Saga Deolu). The big question is, who killed the teacher? This mystery unravels much later in the series, leaving viewers on the edge of their seats.
The students are forced to hide the body, and from there, the tension escalates. News outlets are buzzing with the story, and soon the police are knocking on the school’s doors. As the truth about Mr. Marcus’ death begins to unfold, Diane, Ahmad, Victory, Ivy, Layla, Elijah, Chinasa, and Salewa find themselves in a deep mess. Could the new girl really be responsible? Or did Mr. Marcus die from a poisoned drink given to him by Ahmad? Is everyone sharing the blame? The story is far from over, with only four episodes released so far. Everyone is eagerly awaiting Episode 5.
Exceptional Execution
Kudos to the directors, Orire Nwani and Oluchi Nsofor. They executed this story brilliantly. Even seasoned directors sometimes miss the mark when delivering a well-rounded drama, but these two nailed it. Everything about the series screams “high school in Nigeria,” except perhaps the overly short skirts worn by the girls. The plot progression was spot on, with the “what,” “where,” “how,” and “why” questions all answered adequately.
Stellar Cast and Performance
The casting was nothing short of perfect. We are treated to a parade of familiar and beloved faces. The strongest actors took on the lead roles, while the less experienced ones handled supporting parts. The casting was so well done that even if there was any weak acting, it wasn’t noticeable.
Eni Adeoluwa, who also served as a producer, played Isaac, the overly annoying A-student and the principal’s spy. Eronini Osinachi shone as Elijah, the handsome but academically lazy son of pastors. Then there’s Tomi Ojo’s Layla, the beautiful girl with eyes for teachers instead of classmates, and Jemima Osunde’s Diane, the queen bee and president of the soft girls’ club. And Angel Unigwe, as Chinasa, delivered a performance so moving that her tears were hard to ignore. Every member of the cast played their role to perfection.
The use of multiple languages, including minor Igbo, Yoruba, and Hausa, added to the authenticity of the series. The cinematography was well-executed, and the fact that the series is available on YouTube only adds to its charm.
A Few Inconsistencies
However, not everything was perfect. The scene where Chinasa killed Mr. Marcus felt rushed and unrealistic. Also, the short skirts, this doesn’t align with Nigerian high school culture. In South Africa, perhaps, but not in Nigeria.
Despite these minor issues, Enioluwa and his team delivered an impressive piece of work. The story was well-told, and now, we’re all eagerly waiting for Episode 5.
But here’s a question for you, dear reader:
- Do you think Ahmad poisoned Mr. Marcus?
- And what was Emeka Nwagbarocha doing at the party with Victory?
- Could he be involved in the mess?
Amazing write-up ????????
I was also wondering what that fair Emeka guy was doing at the party… We’ll find out in the coming episodes ????????
Thank you for this
Reading this, it’s like i watched the movie already.
Wow! I need to watch this movie immediately
Tobe my guy ????
This was amazing to read. However, I have bones to pick with the directors and scriptwriter(s) over the realistic incidents in the movie. I’m not sure 90% of Nigerians can relate to the secondary lavish party trope and what not.
Overall, I loved your summary of the movie.
Beautiful summary, gives a good idea of the story. Can’t wait to watch it.
