The Rivers State House of Assembly has pointed accusing fingers at Governor Siminalayi Fubara, saying that he engaged in illegality with regards to his recent appointments.
The Speaker, Martin Amaewhule, had been the one to accuse the governor, during plenary on Monday at the Assembly Quarters in Port Harcourt.
The lawmakers gathered for an unplanned plenary after their last sitting during which they overruled the governor and passed four laws.
Major Jack, the Majority Leader of the House, had on Monday, drawn the attention of the Speaker to the recent appointments by the governor.
The appointments are to head three parastatals of government: Local Government Service Commission, Bureau of Public Procurement, and New City Development Authority.
The Speaker went further to explain that the mode of appointments was listed out in the law, and that there’s no provision for acting chairmen.
The House entered into an argument and some of the lawmakers broached questions about the lawful existence of the New City Development Authority.
Amaewhule accused the governor of despotism even as the House made ip their mind to write a letter to him cautioning him against his actions.
The new developments in the Assembly have kept on fuelling the speculation about whether or not the House would recommence its discarded impeachment proceedings against the governor.
