Most Reverend Justin Welby, the Archbishop of Canterbury, has been fined over £500 for overspeeding the streets of London, the United Kingdom.
The archbishop has also been given three penalty points for the same offense with Lavender Hill Magistrates’ Court ordered Reverend Welby to pay the sum of £300 as fia ne, a £120 victim surcharge, and £90 in legal costs, as well as putting up the penalty points to his driving license.
The archbishop had anointed King Charles III as King of England three days ago but had been recorded driving at 25mph in a 20mph zone in his Volkswagen Golf car last year in 2022.
Meanwhile, BBC has reported that Welby had admitted to committing the offense in writing and was sentenced at a private magistrates’ court hearing where he was prosecuted through the single justice procedure.
