Australia Pushes For Change In Gaza Strip, Foreign Minister Says

The Australian Foreign Minister, Penny Wong, said that Australia is working with international partners, including the United Kingdom, in order to exert pressure to bring about meaningful change in the Gaza Strip. On Tuesday, Wong stated that Australia’s efforts aim to bring about a real improvement in the situation in Gaza.

The Australian government has made it clear about the export permit policy towards Israel, specifying that only those applications for which items require repairs for their return to Australia for defense or law enforcement purposes are approved.

In a move supported by Australia, British Foreign Secretary David Lammy recently suspended 30 arms export licenses to Israel due to concerns that weapons might be used to violate international humanitarian law. This decision put Australia at odds with the United States, which reportedly warned Britain against this move.

Thus, on this matter, Australia shows its commitment to promoting peaceful resolution of conflicts in the Gaza Strip and upholding international humanitarian law. The country’s cooperation with international partners, like the UK, underlines the global concern over what is happening in Gaza and the need for collective action around it.
