Aviation employees under the banner of the National Union of Air Transport Employees, NUATE, have suspended their proposed plan to commence a strike action today, August 16.
The General Secretary, NUATE, Mr Ocheme Oba had confirmed the development through a statement issued on Wednesday, in Lagos State.
NUATE had previously in a circular issued on August 15, announced that aviation security workers would begin on an indefinite nationwide strike over their poor salaries.
The circular had revealed that the workers were still being paid the meagre sum of 30,000 Naira monthly, a very poor amount, especially in the face if the current economy in the country.
Oba had also revealed that the union had sent a letter to the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, to communicate the union’s decision to embark on an industrial action.
On receiving the letter, the authorities had intervened in the matter and pleaded for a week to discuss on the workers’ demands and a possible way forward.
The Union’s scribe had additionally, stated that the NCAA had pledged to organize a meeting between the union, private security firms and the airlines very soon.
