Grammy-nominated singer Ayra Starr has publicly acknowledged Wizkid as the king of Afrobeats, praising his unique ability to deliver what she calls “sexy Afrobeats.”
Her statement comes amid ongoing discussions about who truly leads the genre, with Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy often grouped together as Afrobeats’ “Big 3.”
Ayra Starr’s praise follows their collaboration on her hit track “Gimme Dat”, which she says perfectly captured Wizkid’s distinctive sound.
“Nobody else could have been right on that song [‘Gimme Dat’] aside from Wizkid. Even just his sonics and the sound, the chorus pattern feels very Wizkid; it feels very like sexy Afrobeats. And everybody knows Wizkid is the king of sexy Afrobeats,” she said, highlighting his standout contribution.
