Bangladesh’s president had on Tuesday, August 6, dissolved the parliament – a key demand of student protesters who had been at the forefront of the demonstrations that expelled longtime ruler Sheikh Hasina, according to a statement read.
“The president has dissolved parliament,” Shiplu Zaman, the press secretary of President Mohammed Shahabuddin, said in a statement.
The announcement had come hours after the protesting student leaders set a deadline to dissolve parliament, warning that a “strict program” would be initiated if their deadline is not met.
