The Scottish Premiership team of the season was released last night and the duo of Calvin Bassey and Joe Aribo made the cut after an explosive season with Rangers.
Both players Bassey and Aribo contributed to the Rangers’ winning the Scottish Cup, coming second in the league and their run UEFA EUROPA League final even though they lost to Eintracht Frankfurt. Another notable mention in the team of the season is the Rangers captain James Tavernier.
Joe Aribo has been sensational since his
arrival at the club in 2019, he has cemented his place in the team as one of the three midfielders for Rangers. During the course of the season, he was deployed to different positions as number 10, a right-winger and also played as a tactical false 9 in the UEFA EUROPA League final against Eintracht Frankfurt and he delivered by scoring.
While the announcement was being made, the organizers said this about the 25-year-old midfielder: “Aribo is an exciting talent and he showed his quality throughout the season with impressive performances, scoring goals against top teams like Livingston, Ross County amongst others. It’s a no-brainer that he made the team of the season”.
Having won the Glasglow Rangers Young Player of the year for his outstanding performances in the Rangers backline, Calvin Bassey was named in the left-back position in the Scottish Premiership Team of the Season.
According to the award organizers, They said “Bassey was exceptional in the Rangers backline, the 22-year-old played at a remarkable level for his club either as a left-back or center-back. His contributions to Rangers’ success in the league and cup run can not be overlooked”.
Both players are currently on international duties with the Super Eagles and they featured for the Nigeria team that beat Sierra Leone on Thursday in
their first group game for the AFCON 2023 qualifiers.
