The installation was done yesterday at the 36th and 37th combined convocation ceremony of the university in Kano, where 16,581 students received various degrees. The President was in attendance, represented by the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Prof. Abubakar Rasheed.
Buhari asserted that the university is fortunate to have the seasoned diplomat serve in that capacity and guaranteed that the monarch will use his vast knowledge to good effect in carrying out his duties.
In addition to congratulating the Oba on receiving the Doctor of Law degree (Honoris Causa) from the university, Buhari remarked that the monarch is deserving of his position as chancellor and that the 46-year-old institution will continue to grow in the years to come.
The guest pleaded with Abdullahi Ganduje, the governor of Kano State, to get involved in the dispute over land encroachment between the institution and the host community.
The Benin king promised in his speech to support the institution’s efforts to promote teaching, learning, and research. Additionally, he pledged to concentrate on luring measures to raise the institution’s fortunes.
