American rap sensation, Jay-Z, has lambasted the organizers of the Grammy for his wife, Beyoncé’s ‘Album of the Year’ losses.
The Roc Nation chief executive was given the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award at the 2024 Grammys, held at the Crypto.com Arena, in Los Angeles, California.
However, during his acceptance speech, Jay-Z condemned the Recording Academy’s sense of judgment, highlighting that despite Beyoncé being the most awarded/rewarded person in the Grammy’s history with a total of 32 awards, she had yet to win the Album of the Year category.
Jay Z had said:
“I don’t wanna embarrass this young lady [Beyoncé] but she has more Grammys than anyone [in the world] and [yet has] never won Album of the Year. So, even by your own [Grammy organisers] standards, that doesn’t work. Think about it: the most Grammys never won Album of the Year, that doesn’t work.“Some of you are going to go home tonight and feel like you have been robbed.” The Roc Nation boss further added.
It is not yet clear if this is a diss towards the eventual winner of the category, Taylor Swift winning the 2024 Album of the Year at the Grammys for her song: ‘Midnights’.
Other winners include: Victoria Monét winning the Best New Artist of the Year (against Ice Spice, Fred Again, Coco Jones, Jelly Roll and others), Billie Eilish winning the Song of the Year, Miley Cyrus’s ‘Flowers’ winning the Record of the Year and Tyla’s ‘Water’ winning Best African Music Performance amongst others.
