Nollywood actress and producer Bimbo Ademoye has opened up about a deeply personal betrayal by a friend she once supported in her journey to becoming an actress.
In a candid post shared on Instagram, Bimbo narrated how she went out of her way to help the friend feel confident at industry events by buying her clothes, shoes, and bags. The actress, known for her roles in Sugar Rush, Looking for Baami, and Backup Wife, said she genuinely wanted her friend to feel like the superstar she aspired to become.
“I remember I once had a friend who wanted to be an actor as well. Whenever we attended events, I’d shop for her as well, I’m talking about clothes, shoes, bags and all. I wanted her to look like the superstar she wanted to become,” Bimbo wrote.
She explained that, at the time, she had already gained recognition in the industry and had earned two AMVCA nominations. Trouble reportedly began when her friend showed up at a movie premiere wearing the exact same dress Bimbo had on, only in a different colour — despite earlier claiming she had no outfit planned.
“One day, I had a premiere to attend, it was a movie I was in, and I played the lead role. My stylist had done fittings for me, like twice, in the presence of this friend,” she wrote.
“I had asked her what she was going to wear, and she was like, ‘I don’t even know, maybe I’d just look casual chic.’ I responded with, ‘Just look good, you can’t be my friend and look drab.’
“It was time to wear my dress. Tell me why Aunty pulled out the same exact dress I was wearing in another colour. In all honesty, I didn’t really mind. But my sister who has never been wrong said to me, ‘Preke I don’t think that was ok, she should let you have your moment, she’s not even an actress yet, talk more of being in the film you’re for.’ I told her, ‘Naaah it’s not that serious Bikesy’.”
However, things reportedly escalated from there. Bimbo said the friend began trying to outshine her at every event they attended — all while still spending Bimbo’s money.
“It was as if something woke up in her that day, for every event we attended, she’d always want to dress or look more expensive (which I didn’t mind) ON MY TAB.”
According to the actress, the final straw came when she fell ill and noticed the friend had completely withdrawn. After choosing to cut her off, Bimbo alleged that the friend retaliated in a shocking way.
“So I took my L and cut her off. Tell me why this daughter of Jezebel created a fake page on IG and started trolling me and sending messages to my boyfriend at the time saying all sorts. The craziest part, she even tried to link up with him romantically.”
The emotional post has sparked reactions from fans and colleagues, with many praising Bimbo for her vulnerability and warning others to be careful of envious friendships.
While she did not name the person involved, Bimbo’s story has served as a cautionary tale about misplaced loyalty and hidden competition in friendships.
