The Transmission Company of Nigeria, -TCN’s power generating station: the MBH3 had been was engulfed in an inferno on Saturday evening according to reports. The station, situated along Tinapa Road, in Adiabo, located on the outskirts of Calabar caught fire around 5.00 pm.
The reason for the fire outbreak is yet unknown but an anonymous source at the power plant had said that a power surge in one of the generators had caused the fire outbreak. The blackout in Calabar and its environs had been attributed to the fire outbreak and as of yet, the entire city is still without power.
Newsmen who had visited the scene of the fire outbreak had remarked that the gate had been closed while a crowd had gathered outside to watch the smoke from the.
“Now that one is witnessing an improvement in power supply in Calabar, this has happened. Who knows when power will be restored?”. A resident in the city had lamented.
Meanwhile, the Regional Manager of Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution, -PHED, Mr. Collins Igwe, who visited the station this afternoon has revealed that he would talk with the management of the TCN to find out the extent of damage and the time it would take the power station to become fully functional once more.
