Controversial crossdresser Idris Okunneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, has been released by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission from its custody. The move brings to an end an eventful turn of occurrences that started when he was forcefully taken off a flight that was to take him to London.
However, another controversy went up in the air, reportedly due to the audio recording that claimed he bribed the EFCC officials with N15 million to drop the charges against him. In the recording, a man claiming to be Martins Vincent Otse, alias Verydarkman, said that Bobrisky paid his way to freedom. And so, during interrogation, Bobrisky denied these allegations and reportedly called on the EFCC to investigate the source of the recording.
A source close to the EFCC told Vanguard that Bobrisky maintained no bribe had been demanded or paid and that the allegations were baseless. The EFCC’s spokesman, Dele Oyewale, later confirmed that Bobrisky had, in fact, been released, effectively ending his detention.
This represents the latest in a series of altercations between Bobrisky and authorities. He was to be arrested for alleged naira abuse, and he reportedly checked out by customs while trying to leave Nigeria for Benin Republic. His release once more throws him into the public spotlight amidst raging controversies.
