Boris Johnson will be tending his resignation letter as UK Conservative Party leader today and will continue as the prime minister until autumn. Johnson will officially make this announcement later today. A Conservative leadership race will take place this summer and a new Prime Minister will be elected in time for the Tory party conference taking place in October.
Boris Johnson had spoken to Sir Graham Brady, the chairman of the Conservative 1922 Committee, to update him on his decision. The soon-to-be-former Prime Minister had been fighting to stay on No 10 despite the lack of support.
The PM refused to cooperate even though he had a lot of supporters who were loyal to him previously such as Priti Patel and Grant Shapps who had been calling for Johnson to step down.
