Bus prices for all conventional and BRT lines will increase by N100 as of July 13 based on a decision approved by Lagos State Governor Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
Kolawole Ojelabi, the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority’s assistant director of corporate communication, made this information public in a statement on Thursday.
He declared that the hike, which will take effect on July 13, aims to ensure the sustainability of the BRT and conventional route systems. He added that to secure the sustainability of the Bus Reform Initiative operation in the current global economic and environmental climate, several actions are essential.
Due to the increase, the price of a bus from Ikorodu to Tafawa Balewa Square has increased from N500 to N600, and the price from Berger to Ajah has increased from N600 to N700. The price from Oshodi to Abule Egba would increase to N450 from N350, and the fare from Abule Egba to CMS-Obalende will be N600.
According to Ojelabi, the increase is a result of the rising cost of diesel, which hurts the efficiency of the bus-operating firms.
