A three-story building located around Hamza Abdullahi Way, off Gado Nasco Road, Kubwa has collapsed, with some persons suspected to be trapped in the rubble.
The incident which happened in the early hours of Friday was still under construction, but had some artisans living inside, according to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, -NSCDC.
Already, the disaster management team of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps NSCDC has rescued some of the victims with serious wounds and taken them to the General Hospital in Kubwa. But the number of casualties is still yet to be unconfirmed.
Kubwa, Abuja’s largest suburban town has just recently witnessed the conversion of residential buildings to business centers and vice versa.
Security agencies and National Emergency Management Agency, -NEMA officials are still on the ground trying to save individuals still trapped in the rubble.
Mr. Emmanuel Omeke, a tenant living beside the building, had reported that the collapsed structure had previously been a shopping complex but had recently been converted into residential apartments.
Omeke then went on to suggest that the addition of extra blocks to the building may have brought about the collapse.
