CAF Confederation Cup: Enyimba got off to a good start
Enyimba secured a vital away victory on Saturday over their Senegalese opponent in the 2021/2022 CAF Confederation Cup’s second preliminary round first leg match.
The only goal of the encounter was scored from the spot kick by Cyril Olisema three minutes from time to give Enyimba an edge over ASC Diambars in Thies.
The match looked like it was going to end in stalemate until the two-time African champions came to life in the last ten minute, and it paid off as they were awarded a penalty kick after 87 minutes, and Olisema sent the keeper the wrong way to secure the victory for the People’s Elephants.
The Senegalese side tried to find an equaliser for the rest of the game, but the Nigerian side kept their nerves till the blast of the final whistle.
If the two-time African champions manage to qualify for the next round, they are likely to face Algeria’s side JS Kabylie who on the other end defeated their neighbour AS FAR in Rabat, Morocco with a 1-0.
The shot from Ali Haroun took a deflection from Mohamed Moufid to take the ball away from the direction of the AS FAR keeper and into the back of the net in the 19th minute.
The Moroccan’s side dominated the rest of the game, but the visitors shut them out to take the win back to Morocco. The return leg of the two encounters will take place on Oct. 23.
