President Tinubu’s government has stated that it would upgrade the power supply nationwide, amidst the planned electricity tariff hike on July 1, 2023.
Mr Temitope Fashedemi, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Power, had made this disclosure on Thursday, June 22.
Speaking on behalf of Fashedemi, Udouwem had made the announcement when the Special Adviser to Tinubu on Energy, Ms Olu Verheijen, had paid a call to the Ministry.
Fashedemi had expressed hope that Ms Verheijen would be able to identify several issues confronting the power sector.
Meanwhile, Verheijen had remarked that the nation’s power sector was critical to its growth and productivity. Adding that reforming the power sector would bring about a much-needed favourable impact.
To achieve this very needed feat in the country, there is a need for collaboration between stakeholders in the power sector and a unique approach to achieving a long-lasting solution.
An enabling environment that allows the private sector should have an adequate environment that will permit it to grow so that affordable electricity tariffs for households, can be determined.
According to Nigeria’s National Bureau of Statistics, the power supply leapt to 5852-gigawatt hours in the 1st Quarter of 2023.
Only time will tell if this plan will work-out in the long run or not.
