Nigerian Afrobeats artist Jaywon has issued an advice to his colleagues on how to cope with the challenges of social media trolls, suggesting that resilience is key to navigating the negativity.

He pointed out that the Nigerian music scene is a tough environment, emphasizing that it’s not suited for ‘the weak’.

Jaywon said that notable stars like Davido, Wizkid, and Burna Boy have faced trolling, adding that if an artist is not prepared to be criticized, then that artist cannot have a long-standing career in the industry.

He also encouraged artists not to retreat from social media because of negative comments but instead to stay active and use the platform to promote their work.

In a post shared on his X account on Sunday, Jaywon wrote: “Some of my colleagues call me to chat about the current state of the industry and how I handle all the ranting and disrespect online. My response is always the same: today’s industry is not for the weak.

“Just look at the level of disrespect thrown at artists like Davido, Wizkid, Burna Boy, and many others on social media. If you’re not prepared, you won’t last. They will always come for you, and the only real escape is to go offline but we can’t do that. This is our life, our craft, and no matter what, we will keep pushing forward!”
