Chelsea and Raheem Sterling have parted ways officially after a mutual agreement to end the player’s contract was reached, thus putting an end to the winger’s long-standing isolation from the team at Stamford Bridge.
Sterling, who was a summer signing in 2022 from Manchester City for £47.5 million and was one of the first big signings of the new BlueCo regime, has not played for the team since being banned at the beginning of the 2024–25 season. The 31-year-old was loaned to Arsenal last season, where he failed to make a significant impact and was then left out of both sides for the first half of the current season.

Chelsea released a short statement thanking Raheem Sterling for his services to the club and wishing him good luck in the future. While the agreed financial details were not made public, Sterling was reportedly on a salary of £325,000 per week, and he would have received around £22 million over the next 18 months of his contract.
Chelsea had been in talks to offload the England international, but no club willing to pay his wages came forward, so the club was left with the option of a contract termination. Sterling, on the other hand, is now out of contract and wants to stay in London, where clubs like Fulham and West Ham are reportedly interested in him.
For Chelsea, it represents a great relief on the financial side and closes the door on one of the club’s most expensive recent mistakes.
