Chelsea celebrated a brilliant ninth European title on Wednesday night by thrashing Real Betis 4-1 to win the UEFA Conference League final in Wrocław after trailing in the first half phase.
It looked like a walk in the park for the Blues who scored first but were unfortunate to end up going on recess with Real Betis leading. The side of Spain guided by Manuel Pellegrini, the 71-year-old coach, outplayed their opponents and took the initiative to grab the glory of their first trophy in Europe.
Having said that, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca made a move that favored his team’s comeback in the second half. Reece James, Jadon Sancho, and Levi Colwill, the players introduced, gave new impetus to Chelsea’s play while the momentum was quickly changing to their advantage.
Cole Palmer masterminded Chelsea’s resurgence as he passed accurately twice in only 5 minutes. His cross right at the head of Enzo Fernández equaled the count before a great cutback saw Nicolas Jackson produce a dinked effort that gave Chelsea the lead.
Sancho then went on to score a third for his team by curling a powerful effort into the far bottom corner before Moisés Caicedo wrapped up the day with a cool finish during added time.
The victory now means that Chelsea has not only won each of the three major European trophies (Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League) but has also overtaken Barcelona as the most successful club in European club competitions. It’s Liverpool (13) and one more than the Blues in terms of the number of European titles won. For Maresca’s team, however, it is certainly a promising sign of things to come in the forthcoming European tournament.
