Chief Iwuanyanwu’s Grand Farewell: A Look at His Funeral Rites

The elaborate funeral arrangements for Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, the recently deceased President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, are set to commence on Tuesday, October 29, 2024. This prestigious event will culminate with his burial on November 1, 2024.

In July, the solemn news of Iwuanyanwu’s passing was confirmed by his son. The National Publicity Secretary of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Dr. Alex Ogbonnia, has assured the public that the late leader will receive “exceptional funeral rites” reflecting his esteemed status.

Senator Ben Ndi Obi, Chairman of the Central Burial Committee, unveiled the detailed funeral programme during the inauguration of the Sub-Committees and Local Organising Committees at the Imo State Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja. The schedule includes a “Service of Songs” on October 29 in Attah, Ikeduru LGA, Imo State. Following this, Chief Iwuanyanwu will be laid to rest in his ancestral home in Attah on November 1, 2024.

The funeral programme further extends to Enugu, where the late Chief Iwuanyanwu’s remains will be transported to the headquarters of Ohanaeze Ndigbo at No. 7 Park Avenue, GRA, Enugu. Additionally, Days of Tributes will be held in Lagos, Abuja, Enugu, and Owerri to pay homage to the late leader.

Senator Obi praised Iwuanyanwu as a “global citizen and a nationalist,” highlighting his legendary contributions to national development. Obi lauded Iwuanyanwu’s remarkable achievements and his unwavering dedication to the Igbo community, underscoring his legacy of service and commitment.
