The Chinese Foreign Minister hailed Nigeria’s pivotal role in amplifying Africa’s voice on the global stage. Yi’s visit to Abuja is his first trip to an African country since the 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) in Beijing.

“My visit this time is to further the tradition of the Chinese foreign minister visiting Africa as the first overseas visit of the new year,” Yi stated.

“President Tinubu’s visit to China for the FOCAC Beijing Summit was a full success. It marked the elevation of our relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership, ushering in new and brighter prospects for our cooperation,” he said.
The first plenary meeting of the Nigeria-China Intergovernmental Committee, held in Beijing, was also highlighted as a major milestone. Yi praised both nations for laying the groundwork for mutually beneficial collaborations in various sectors.
