In a recent statement, a spokesperson from the Chinese Foreign Ministry emphatically asserted that there are no “so-called defectors” within China. This declaration was made in response to inquiries regarding reports suggesting that China had deported North Korean defectors.
Wang Wenbin, addressing this matter during a routine press briefing, explained that when it comes to individuals from North Korea who have entered China for economic reasons without proper authorization, China has consistently adhered to legal protocols. “China has consistently upheld a responsible stance, addressing the situation in accordance with a combination of domestic and international legal principles as well as humanitarian considerations,” he emphasized.
This statement comes after South Korean news agency Yonhap reported that China had repatriated approximately 600 North Korean defectors earlier in the week, despite persistent objections from Seoul against forced repatriation.
