The management of Chrisland schools has come out to explain the incident leading up to the death of one of their students, Whitney Adeniran, who died during the institution’s inter-house sports activities at Agege Stadium, Lagos State, on Thursday, February 9.
The school’s report is coming after Michael Adeniran, Whitney’s father had taken to social media on Saturday night to demand an investigation into the death of his daughter, additionally urging the Lagos State government and the police to intervene in the matter.
Chrisland Schools, while reacting to the deceased father’s call for justice released a press statement on Sunday, 12 February which partly read:
“The management and staff of Chrisland Schools Limited, with a deep sense of loss, announce the death of one of our precious students, Whitney Adeniran; whose painful exit happened on Thursday, February 9th, 2023. Whitney who had been a Day student had previously opted to not participate in the inter-house sports match past for reasons we do not know of.”
According to the school, they had let her be after checking her records and discovering that the student had complained of ill health earlier in the term on January 20, 2023.
“Her father, Mr. Michael Adeniran, came to the school to take her home after we had contacted her parents. We then emphasized to her parents to take a critical look at her.”
The school’s report had it that Miss Adeniran had slumped in public view, after which she had been rushed to the nearest medical facility for first aid.
“As we await the outcome of an independent post-mortem result, we remain unwaveringly committed to supporting the grieving family at this critical moment while praying fervently for the fortitude to bear her painful loss,” the statement had said.
