The music world has been plunged into panic following the kidnapping of popular Christian gospel music composer and National Music Director for the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Jude Nnam.
The ace musician and King of Gospel Music in Anambra State, popularly known as “Ancestor,” Nnam, was reportedly abducted on Thursday evening at about 6 p.m. in Umunnachi, Anambra State, where he had gone for a church function.
News about his kidnap came from a Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Augustine Mario, through Facebook. He wrote, “Please kindly keep Sir Dr. Jude Nnam (Ancestor) in your prayers. He was allegedly kidnapped yesterday evening around 6 p.m. in Umunnachi, Anambra State. May God grant him safety and quick release from his abductors. Amen.”
Other priests, such as Reverend Father Mentor, also confirmed the incident. The priest said in a frustrated and sad tone:
“If this is true, then it is a huge shame. I’m simply tired of this unfortunate space called Nigeria. Why this type of pain and frustration now?”.
Jude Nnam is a renowned Christian music icon who, of late, celebrated his 50th birthday amidst his ministering in songs at the event, ‘Unusual Praise 2024’ held at the Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity, Onitsha.
His abduction has attracted widespread condemnation and demands for his unconditional release, unscathed. Indeed, prayers are pouring in as Nigerians again face up to the cold reality of growing insecurity in the country.
No official statement has as yet been released on this incident by the relevant authorities. In the meantime, Nnam’s friends, family, and indeed the whole Christian community are keeping their hopes high.
