Crystal Palace gave Manchester City a shock as they secured a 1-0 victory in the 2025 FA final played at Wembley, earning their first ever major trophy as a club.
Eberechi Eze’s 18th-minute volley from Daniel Muñoz’s cross was the all-important goal as it put a pretty quick-thought counter-attack to bed. The home team, fully in charge during the first part of the match, had the like of a dangerous attempt from Erling Haaland and some impressive playmaking by Kevin De Bruyne in his final match, and still, the visitors hung on.
The hero of the match was the goalkeeper, Dean Henderson, the one who made a series of fantastic saves. He got quite lucky when he harshly was let off a red card after a handball incident just outside the box, and later on, he took a penalty from Omar Marmoush who had been foul by Tyrick Mitchell.
Henderson’s performance was still outstanding when he stopped attempts from Jeremy Doku and Claudio Echeverri who was making his debut in the second half when City was putting pressure on the guests. Even though Palace had another goal disallowed due to offside, it was the last nail in the coffin as they stayed strong and defended through the added 10 minutes of the game.
The outcome finally saw the Eagles put an end to the seven matches they had gone on without a single win against City and filled their pockets with a ticket to the UEFA Europa League. Interestingly, the citizens’ side shamefully lost in the final stage of the competition which is an unusual occurrence for teams of their caliber, unlike their rivals who are still commemorating the event at Wembley.
