Flash flooding in the south-east of Spain has killed about 72 people in the south-east of Spain – according to local media reports even as rescue teams have been working round the clock to find those feared missing.
King Felipe VI of Spain has reacted to the tragedy, calling it an “enormous destruction” to infrastructure and warning that there’d be difficulty in accessing some areas.
Alreadt, the Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has promised residents in affected areas that he “we won’t abandon” [them]- but warned that the “devastating episode is not over”.
Footage posted to social media overnight had showed how the floodwaters caused chaos in some areas, knocking down bridges and dragging cars through streets.
Local authorities in the affected Spanish regions have cautioned citizens over the false information circulating online, including the one where rumours were circulating on whether the tap water was safe to drink.
