The Democratic National Committee is in the middle of a massive internal crisis. On May 21, 2026, under intense pressure from frustrated party members and major news outlets, DNC Chair Ken Martin finally released the party’s highly sensitive, unredacted 2024 election review. The document was meant to serve as a strategic roadmap for the future, but the rollout quickly turned into a public embarrassment. The handling of the report is explained exactly.

While the Republican National Committee just reported a massive $124 million cash cushion with zero debt, the DNC revealed it is currently negative $3 million due to a staggering $17 million debt load left over from the 2024 cycle. An Incomplete and Disowned Document

Instead of showing a unified path forward, the 192-page post-mortem report exposed deep, bitter factions within the party’s leadership. In an unprecedented move, Ken Martin completely distanced himself from the report at the exact moment he published it. Writing on Substack, he stated, “I am not proud of this product, it does not meet my standards, and it won’t meet your standards.” The report was revealed to be a disorganized draft filled with errors, missing source information, and lacking an actual concluding section. It was written by Paul Rivera, a veteran strategist who reportedly didn’t even interview Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, or their top campaign aides before submitting it.

The DNC went so far as to attach a formal warning to the document, stating that the committee could not independently verify the claims made inside because Rivera never provided them with the underlying interview data.

A Shocking Lack of Accountability

This entire situation is a masterclass in political cowardice and total institutional failure. The Democratic Party spent hundreds of millions of dollars on the 2024 election, lost the White House, and then waited nearly two years to produce a typo-ridden, half-baked report that avoids the most important questions.

What I find most hypocritical is what the report completely ignores. It is mind-boggling that a 192-page review about why Democrats lost in 2024 manages to completely omit the words “Gaza” or “Israel.” Outside progressive groups have already pointed out that the author explicitly told them in private meetings that the administration’s foreign policy was a massive net-negative with young voters. Yet, the final document completely scrubs that reality. By trying to protect establishment figures and refusing to talk about Biden’s age or the Gaza protests, the DNC didn’t protect the party, they just proved to voters that they are completely out of touch with reality.

The fallout from this document could not come at a worse time for the party as they gear up for critical midterm elections. While the Republican National Committee just reported a massive $124 million cash cushion with zero debt, the DNC revealed it is currently negative $3 million due to a staggering $17 million debt load left over from the 2024 cycle. The text heavily blames Joe Biden’s inner circle, arguing that the White House completely failed to “position or prepare” Kamala Harris during her time as Vice President, leaving her totally exposed when she took over the ticket.

The “Identity Politics” Trap

The autopsy explicitly warns that Democrats are actively losing their base by prioritizing identity politics over working-class issues. It notes that “Harris wrote off rural America” and warns that the party can no longer assume Latino voters or young men of color are a reliable part of the base.

A Crisis of Leadership

Immediately following the release of the text, Ken Martin announced on a staff call that Paul Rivera was no longer working with the DNC. But firing the author hasn’t stopped the bleeding. Calls for Martin’s resignation are growing louder by the day as top party operatives express complete disbelief over how a standard political review was turned into a months-long, self-inflicted debacle. With no money, no clear message, and an official report that everyone disowns, the Democrats are entering a critical election season completely blind.
