For the state governorship election slated for November 11, 2023, Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri won the PDP ticket on Wednesday.
The Philip Shuaibu-led PDP screening committee just approved Diri for the Bayelsa election in March.
The eight local government areas of the state provided the ad hoc representatives.
Ademola Adeleke, the governor of Osun state and the PDP’s head of panel for the elective state delegates congress for the Bayelsa governorship primary proclaimed Diri the victor of the vote at the Gabriel Okara Cultural Centre in Yenagoa.
Adeleke reported that the governor received 305 votes in total, making him the party’s lone candidate.
The exercise was “the best primaries in the history of our party in Bayelsa state,” according to Diri in his winning speech.
He stated that the primaries were merely a formality to satisfy the Electoral Act’s requirements and added that his party was becoming more and more powerful every day.
Diri credited the party’s understanding for allowing him to emerge as the only candidate for the primaries.
