Report has it that, That Sonnyboy Sekowe popularly known as DJ Maphorisa a South African Disc Jockey was arrested for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend, Thuli Phongolo.
According to Thuli Phongolo who doubles as an actress and also a club DJ, the incident took place in her apartment in Johannesburg on Sunday.
Due to the little argument, they had on Saturday, she decided to confront him about it when he visited her place, unfortunately, that didn’t go well as Maphorisa suddenly became aggressive and started to hit her with his fists on her chest, He then dragged her out to the balcony and angrily grabbed her neck.
She also revealed that he seized her phone, but later released the phone to her, which she used in contacting her manager, who brought her to the police station, to open a domestic abuse case against him.
“On Sunday 2023/5/7 at about noon, I was at my place of residence with my boyfriend, Themba Sonnyboy Sekowe, better known as DJ Maphorisa.
“I confronted him so that we can talk about our argument, which happened the previous night during his gig.
“He became aggressive and started to punch me with his fists on my chest.
“He held me and took me to the balcony, and grabbed me aggressively by my neck,” said Phongolo in the statement.
While DJ Maphorisa, is to appear in the Randburg Magistrate’s court on a charge of assault, several people are speculating that he may be high on drugs at the time of the attack and might not know what he’s doing, fans are earnestly praying that this doesn’t ruin his career and soil his reputation, as no big brands would want to be associated with an assaulter, this might spoil his brand, and the reputation he has built over the years, as assault is no small thing.
While some fans believe, Phongolo exaggerated the incident, just to get monetary payment from Maphorisa. Regardless of the beliefs we’ll let the law take its course, and see if Maphorisa was framed or not.
