Novak Djokovic literally only the third tennis player in the history of the world that has been able to achieve 100 ATP titles after making a dramatic comeback in the finals of the Geneva Open against Hubert Hurkacz on Saturday. The Serbian, who is 38 years old, just about got the better of a Pole, 5-7, 7-6(2), 7-6(2) in a game that lasted more than three hours.
Djokovic, who was playing the tune-up event for Roland Garros, had to seemingly reach the bottom after he lost the first set. His draft in the final for 23 games… the decider, if you will, was when the Serbian showed his fighting spirit. With a lot of ease, he won both tie-breaks and confirmed his primacy in the form of the first title since the last Olympic Games.
The most famous tennis player of the moment, the holder of the World’s No.1 position Novak Djokovic, reached this 100 titles which only two other players in the history of tennis have and is…the first to get titles across 20 consecutive seasons thanks to the triumph in Geneva Open.
“It was an incredible battle. He was closer to winning, but I stayed [focused] and found a way,” said Djokovic.
Hurkacz, who in the case of victory, still has to wait for his first title until April of 2024, appreciated the sportsmanship and resilience of Djokovic.
On the other hand, Djokovic will move to the upcoming French Open tournament of which part he is the first. There, he will fight against an American named Mackenzie McDonald to win his 25th Grand Slam title.
