Inter Milan midfielder Ebenezer Akinsanmiro has joined Serie B club Sampdoria on loan until the end of the 2024/25 season. Inter Milan announced the move, stating, “FC Internazionale Milano announces the loan transfer of Ebenezer Akinsanmiro to Sampdoria. The midfielder, born in 2004, joins the Ligurian side on a temporary basis with an option and counter-option.”
Akinsanmiro, who previously shone at Nigeria Professional Football League side Remo Stars, was signed by Inter Milan after his impressive performances at the Viareggio Cup World Football Tournament. He joined the Serie A giants on a four-year contract.
The 19-year-old midfielder made an impact with Inter’s Primavera team, scoring six goals and providing two assists in 25 appearances. His strong performances earned him a call-up to the senior team, and he made his debut on February 25th, coming on as a substitute in a 4-0 victory over Lecce. This achievement placed him among the ranks of Nigerians who have represented Inter, including Nwankwo Kanu, Taribo West, Obafemi Martins, Obinna Nsofor, Joel Obi, and Obiora Nwankwo.
Despite his debut, Akinsanmiro struggled for regular playing time, leading to his loan move to Sampdoria. Under Andrea Pirlo’s management, the Nigerian midfielder aims to gain more minutes on the pitch. Sampdoria, who were relegated to Serie B on May 8th, 2023, are determined to return to Italy’s top flight.
With this move, Akinsanmiro joins Samuel Ntanda and Gambia’s Ebrima Darboe, becoming the third African player at Sampdoria. He could make his debut for the club in a pre-season fixture against BFC Dynamo on Saturday, provided he is fit.
