Veteran Nigerian music icon, Evangelist Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi, has debunked viral rumours about his alleged death, assuring fans that he is alive, in good health, and full of energy.
In a video shared on Tuesday morning, the 83-year-old legend appeared lively and upbeat as he addressed the false reports — even breaking into song as part of his rebuttal.
“Hello, my name is Professor Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi. Satan, you don lose o, Satan, you don lose o, you don pafuka. Na lie lie you dey talk, you don pafuka,” he sang, switching between Yoruba, English, and Pidgin.
After the musical response, he followed up with a clear message:
“It is fake news that started a few hours ago claiming that I, Evangelist Obey, have passed on to glory. It is a lie. I am alive, and that is not the word Jesus has written.”
The false report began circulating on Monday, sparking panic and emotional tributes across social media platforms. But close associates quickly stepped in to clear the air.
Speaking later that evening during a TVC interview, his personal assistant, Tope Olukole, completely dismissed the claims.
“Let’s set the record straight: Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi is alive and thriving! He recently celebrated a joyous occasion — the 50th birthday of his second child’s spouse,” Olukole said.
“Rumours of his passing are baseless and entirely unfounded. We’re glad to see him active and well.”
This is coming less than a month after the Juju music legend marked his 83rd birthday, further fuelling public concern when the fake news emerged.
