The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has detained 35 individuals suspected of engaging in internet fraud in Benin City, Edo State.
According to a statement posted on the EFCC’s official X account on Wednesday, the arrests were made on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, across multiple locations within the city. The operation was carried out following reliable intelligence linking the suspects to cybercrime activities.
The EFCC confirmed, “The arrests were made based on credible information regarding their alleged involvement in internet fraud.”
During the raid, authorities seized nine luxury vehicles along with several smartphones and laptops, which are believed to have been used in carrying out the fraudulent schemes.
The suspects are expected to face prosecution after the conclusion of ongoing investigations.
