The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has just invited Godswill Akpabio, the former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs to answer questions over an allegation of abuse of office and misappropriating billions of Naira.
According to Umeh Kalu, Akpabio’s lawyer, EFCC had served Akpabio the invitation letter asking him to appear at its office on Wednesday, March 29.
In 2021, the senator-elect had been detained after attempting to bribe the Chairman of the anti-graft agency, Abdulrasheed Bawa with $350,000 (approx. N135 million).
Additionally, there have been allegations of N40 billion fraud perpetrated in the NDDC, a ministry that had been chaired by Akpabio for three years. To add to the fact that the anti-graft agency had in the past apprehended Akpabio over the alleged theft of N108.1 billion of Akwa Ibom funds.
