The Egyptian FA has extended the contract of head coach Hossam Hassan, after the national team’s promising showings in the World Cup. Hany Abo Rida, president of the EFA, revealed at a press conference that new deals had been ratified for both Hassan and national team director Ibrahim Hassan.
Hassan has reportedly put pen to paper on an extension which will keep him in the role until 2030.
He led Egypt to the Round of 16 in only their fourth World Cup appearance and first since 2018.
Hassan’s men pushed reigning champions Argentina to the brink of the tournament’s biggest shock after racing to a 2-0 lead, only to slip to a 3-2 loss after a late turnaround.

The 59-year-old steered the Pharaohs to a number of wins in the tournament, including a first win under his command in their 3-1 victory over New Zealand in their opening game, marking their first World Cup success under his management. A penalty shoot-out win against Australia in the round of 16 will give him immense confidence on his side, with it representing Egypt’s first-ever World Cup knock-out victory.
He led Egypt to the semi-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations shortly after taking the reins of the nation back in February.
