Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), a global intelligence on business has shunned Lagos, the Nigeria’s commercial capital city as the world’s second least liveable urban area. EIU has ranked Lagos a shameful 171 out of 172 nations in the list of the best liveable cities in the world for the first quarter of this year, according to the latest 2022 Global Liveability Index -GLI.
This research has just marked the best city in Nigeria as the second to the worst in Africa as Damascus located in Syria and Tripoli located in Libya continue to warm the last place seat at the bottom of the list along with Lagos- Nigeria as they face social unrest, terrorist attacks and internal conflicts respectively.
The EIU additionally highlighted the top five best cities to live in, in the world which are Vienna located in Austria; Copenhagen located in Denmark; Zurich in Switzerland; Calgary in Canada and Vancouver also in Canada.
Over thirty factors were taken into account while calculating each rank, which are then added together into a weighted score ranging from one to 100.
From the indicators used for the ranking, indexes like stability, healthcare, culture & environment, education and infrastructure, Lagos scored 20.0 in stability, 20.8 in healthcare, 44.9 in culture and environment, 25.0 in education and 46.4 in infrastructure which when compiled totalled an embarrassing score of 32.2 from a total of 100.
