Following the Supreme Court order and disregarding the directive of the President, the Governor of Kaduna State, El Rufai, has ordered that all ministries, departments, and Agencies Should Accept the old naira notes in Kaduna state.

This information was revealed by El Rufai’s Special Assistant on Media and Communication, Muyiwa Adekeye, in a statement. Muyiwa stated that it was pertinent to follow the directives of the Supreme Court.

According to the statement, personnel of Government Agencies cannot be involved in cash collection of Revenue, as there are collection agencies that are authorized by the government, and must follow the directives of the Supreme Court.

The statement was titled, “KDSG asks agencies to accept payments in old and new notes

stated, “in line with the subsisting order of the Supreme Court, the Kaduna State government has directed its ministries, departments, and agencies to ensure that their collection agents continue to accept payments made in all denominations of the naira, old and new.

The laws of Kaduna State do not allow personnel of government agencies to be involved in the cash collection of revenues

The collection agents authorized by state government agencies do offer citizens a route for cash payment, and are expected to comply with the subsisting court order.”

President Buhari Made an announcement that the old 500 and 1000 notes are no longer legal tender, but any citizen with such money should go and deposit in the Central Bank, Buhari’s announcement was contrary to the directives given by the Supreme Court.

El Rufai blasted Buhari, for flaunting the orders of the Supreme Court, which is the highest court in Nigeria, as that is an indication that the government is above the law. He further made sure that the old 500 and 1000 notes were still legal tender in Kaduna state.

Nigerians have gone through untold hardship, during these past few weeks, there are even cases of deaths as Banks are not dispensing the new notes, the old notes except the 200 old notes are no longer legal tender, persons have not been able to make Business transactions, it has become impossible to withdraw money since banks are now being attacked. POS agents charge ridiculously for money.

El Rufai only just acted as a considerate Governor who understands the plights of his people and seeks to alleviate their sufferings.

Other State Governors might want to copy El Rufai’s move, as Nigerians are suffering, and the major reason why cash is not in circulation is still unknown. Implementing the use of the old naria notes might help to calm Angry Nigerians who have taken to destroying banks to express their anger
