In a bizarre showdown, supporters of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Idah Local Government area of Kogi State have gone to absurd lengths ahead of the state’s governorship election. These so-called “enthusiasts,” sent by their respective parties, engaged in a peculiar gunfight that left many nursing injuries and vehicles worse for wear.
The comical chaos unfolded on a fine Wednesday, where bullets were flying faster than campaign promises. Even a police officer joined the ranks of the wounded. Yes, you read that right, a police officer got caught up in the spectacle too.
Not to be outdone, the Kogi State Police Command, led by their very serious spokesperson, SP William Aya, issued a statement on Thursday. They declared that an investigation was in the works, ensuring that heads would roll – metaphorically, of course.
CP Bethrand Onuoha, the Commissioner of Police, wasn’t too thrilled with the show. He called on the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department to unleash their Sherlock Holmes skills and get to the bottom of this circus.
The Command also had a grand message for the hooligans in the audience, warning them to behave before the November 11 governorship election. In other words, don’t bring your popcorn and chaos to the polling booths.
With all the theatrics surrounding this election, it’s starting to feel like Kogi State is stuck in a never-ending episode of a political drama series. One can only hope that the next governor will bring some much-needed change to the state’s tumultuous political landscape. Fingers crossed for a less explosive future!
