The Enugu State Government has announced a plan to spend ₦10 billion on installing advanced Close Circuit Television (CCTV) security cameras in important areas across the state. This proposal is included in the 2025 budget, called the “Budget of Exponential Growth and Inclusive Prosperity.” The goal is to enhance security and position the state as an attractive destination for investors and residents.
The budget, totaling ₦971.08 billion, comprises ₦837.94 billion for capital expenditure and ₦133.14 billion for recurrent expenditure.
Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Chief Chris-Roberts Ozongwu, revealed that the ₦10 billion set aside for the CCTV system will be spent on installing advanced cameras in busy areas, important intersections, bus stops, and main roads throughout the state. These cameras, which have modern searchlights and are connected to a central monitoring system, aim to improve security and help prevent crime.
Ozongwu said, ” This technology-driven security system is designed to ensure Enugu State remains safe and secure, making it the preferred destination for high-net-worth individuals and foreign investors to live and conduct business peacefully.”
Besides the CCTV systems, the state government plans to spend ₦5 billion in 2025 to buy new security and official vehicles. This investment will increase the number of security vehicles, which currently includes over 100 in use.
Agriculture is another key focus of the 2025 budget, with ₦20 billion allocated for the purchase of 1,000 tractors and other modern farming implements. This plan is meant to encourage the use of machines in farming and boost productivity across the state.
The plans for improving security and farming are part of a bigger plan by Enugu State to help the economy grow and bring in more investments. The budget reflects a commitment to creating a secure, productive, and investor-friendly environment.
