Dame Ibim Semenitari, a former interim managing director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, has left the All Progressive Congress. Under the governorship of Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, Semenitari held the position of Rivers State Commissioner for Information and Communications. The journalist who won the Cable News Network Award was a key player in Vice President Yemi Osibanjo’s campaign team when she ran in the APC’s presidential primary in anticipation of the 2023 election.

In a letter dated 9th June 2022, and written to her Ward Chairman in the state’s Ward 5, Okrika local government area, the former NDDC leader announced her departure from the APC. She wished the ruling party well while praising it for its unity and the chance it gave her to serve in a variety of roles in the state and the country as a whole.“I appreciate the friendship, camaraderie, and opportunity that this platform has provided me to serve my state, region, and country, even as I wish the party well. “Please be assured of my regards always.”

The most recent resignation occurred just two days after Dr. Dawari George, a former member of the House of Representatives, made the same choice. Before George, a former commissioner for energy and natural resources in the state submitted his resignation from the party, Senator Magnus Abe’s ally Hon. Golden Chioma also announced his resignation from the state’s major opposition party. None of the aforementioned political power players in the state has indicated what party they would be moving to.
