The Former Governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun has expressed his fears and worry over the large emigration of young people from Nigeria to foreign lands, a situation that has been tagged the ‘Japa-wave’.
The lawmaker, who admitted that politicians had misrun the country, had pleaded with the youths in the country to exercise patience as things were bound to be better sooner or later.
In an exclusive interview with BBC Yoruba, Amosun declared that the Japa trend was accelerating brain drains in many sectors of the country as more Nigerians, weary of bad leadership and economic stagnation, flee the country, in search of greener pastures abroad, daily.
Reports have it that more than 13,000 Nigeria-trained doctors migrated to the UK alone in 2022. These massive migrations have also been observed in the banking and academic sectors too. Amosun concluded his interview, by pleading with the Academic Staff Union of Universities -ASUU, to suspend their strike and return to work.
